Christmas Shoot

Newcastle Wildfowlers members, Northumberland & Durham Wildfowlers members, and guests (37 guns in total) attended Highlaws Farm on Sunday 18th December for the annual Christmas Clay Pigeon Shoot. Hot mulled wine kept the cold at bay on a frosty but clear morning. The layout was: 10 driven, 10 settling and 10 crossing; the crossing sorting the men out from the boys. Inland Goose Shooting – 30th September to 1st October

Cliff Landreth, Ronny Mason and John Armstrong joined 3 wildfowlers from Hartlepool on a weekend trip to goose shooting grounds near Drem, on the Firth of Forth. We had 2 successful morning flights in which we shot 15 geese over the two mornings. On both mornings we experienced an unusual tropical heat, which although not enough to tempt John Armstrong to part with his trademark wax-proof coat – did cause the birds to be a bit reluctant to decoy.  ...
