Dornoch Trip

Ron, Cliff, Robin and Colin had there annual foray to the northern firths, the weather was calm and settled not the best for wildfowling. After a reconnaissance on the Sunday, Robin and Colin decided to have a go at the geese on the Cromarty Firth. Cliff and Ron would try the duck on the Dornock Firth. Due to the calm weather conditions, other guns, and bait diggers, no geese were secured. Cliff and Ron, however,  had success with the wigeon. Both teams helped to kill several bottles of Scotch! Newcastle Wildfowlers AGM

NWA held its 51st AGM at the Highlander Pub, Belsay on Friday 4th November. President Sir John Scott was in attendance along with 40 members and guests. Kenn Ball – Hon Sec. – addressed the club, highlighting the past year’s acheivements. One being the publication of our first book, “The First 50 Years”, the other being the setting up of this website. Gerry Flook, the last founder member and backbone of the club, was made an honorary member. Sir John Scott presented the club’s 5 trophies and a delicious meal of roast beef was enjoyed by all.        ...

Kenn, Paul and guests at Holy Island first weekend in November

Kenn met with Lee, an introductory permit holder, at 5.30am on the morning of Tuesday the 1st of November. Due to shift patterns, the three days chosen weren’t the best tide-wise, however on the first day shots were taken, some measure of success were obtained. Wednesday the 2nd was to be a busier day, as in addition to Lee, a couple of new permit holders wanted to visit and be accompanied by someone who knew the area. Fortunately, Paul Scott offered to take a day off work to help. Again, an early start saw us decoying the high tide in the pig farm point area, with Paul and Kenn setting things up and sitting back as armed observers! As usual, the first hour and a half after high tide saw the action and wigeon were picked. Not be outdone, Paul pulled off an excellent shot at a high Teal which had escaped the notice of the three decoyers! The evening flight saw us at the bottom (South) end on Harvey’s and the Chair. Again, shots were taken but no success. The final day saw us start at Harvey’s and the Chair before being washed off and walking around to the point. Paul Scott with Visitor

Paul Scott with friend Vince accompanied a temporary permit holder on 25th, 26th and 27th October to Holy Island. The visitor was a first time wildfowler. He had some shots at geese, but did not connect. Vince had 100% kills to cartridges over decoys. A successful time was had by...

Ken Ball  accompanied a introductory permit visitor  at Holy Island on the 25,26, 27 Oct. He had three successful flights out of five. two flights were disturbed by bait diggers.
